‘Deathgames’ Draws Inspiration From Video Games And UFC
Posted by Nadine • Filed in Articles, Movies/TV

From MTV:

Deathgames.” The title alone summons up awesome mental images, right? The title bubbled out of the trades last week as an upcoming project with “Twilight” star Kellan Lutz and “Iron Man 2” star Samuel L. Jackson in late-stage talks to headline. Intrigued by the premise — Jackson kidnaps Lutz and forces him to fight in a modern-day gladiator arena — I put in a call to Mike Callaghan, who is producing with Motion Picture Corporation of America, for additional details.

“Essentially the idea is, what if you had ‘Gladiator’ set in the present with modern-day technology,” Callaghan explained. “You’ve got Sam Jackson essentially playing the Caesar who rules over an arena where people fight to the death. And Kellan plays our gladiator, who enters the film as someone that was kidnapped and rises through the ranks to become the head gladiator, the prized fighter.”

People who are used to the dazzling acrobatic combat in movies like “The Matrix” tend to be pretty surprised when they tune in for a Mixed Martial Arts event, which is highlighted by up-close punches and kicks rather than backflips and flying jump kicks. Callaghan promises that kind of aesthetic in the finished film.

“There’s no wire work with people flipping and doing crazy stunts. It’s really very hardcore, a lot of punching. There are weapons involved in some of the fights, so it can get pretty bloody in that regard. We want that realism and brutality that was captured very well in ‘Fight Club,’ but updated for how you would broadcast those fights for a wider audience,” he said.

Kellan Leaves His House and Gets Ready to Take Off
Posted by Nadine • Filed in Articles

From PopSugar:

Kellan Lutz flashed a smile this morning as he left his LA home and hopped into a car bound for LAX. He’s heading out of town after a fun weekend at Coachella and a date night on Tuesday at a Lakers game with AnnaLynne McCord. Kellan‘s trip comes just as the Tribeca Film Festival gets under way in NYC, and his film Meskada is among the movies to be screened. The project sees Kellan taking on yet another suspenseful role, and thankfully it also contains a requisite shirtless scene.

Kellan in the MTV “must-see list” at Tribeca Film Festival
Posted by Jullie • Filed in Articles

MTV made a list of the top 5 movies at the Tribeca Film Festival, that kicked off yesterday and goes until May 2 in new York.
Kellan‘s Meskada made the list!

These days, it feels like every major city — and more than a few minor ones — has its own film festival. But few can approach the credibility, level of quality and star-studded pleasure of the annual Tribeca Film Festival, which once again kicks off in the heart of New York City this week. When we recently sat down for an interview with co-founder Robert De Niro, he was as excited for the new crop of films as we are.

“I’m very happy that we’ve managed to make it work and it be a success, and I’m very happy,” explained the Oscar-winning screen legend. “I hope it goes down for a long time — a lot longer than I’m around. That would be great. [I hope it becomes] part of a real tradition of New York and part of the fabric of New York.”

With that in mind, and as the fest kicks off, we’ve combed over our TFF guide and humbly present this list of the five films we’re most eager to see:

“Meskada”: For “Twilight” fans, three words explain why this movie is in such great demand: Shirtless. Kellan. Lutz. The crime drama follows an affluent town dealing with the brutal murder of a young boy, co-stars Nick Stahl and Rachel Nichols and is sure to elicit an “OME!” or two.

The AccessHollywood.com counted down the 10 hottest Hollywood reboots and A Nightmare on Elm Street, with Kellan, made number 4!

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — IMAX and 3-D movie crazes are in full swing, but there’s another (big haired, synthesizing fad) creeping up in theaters near you: ‘80s reboots! With the ‘80s invasion hitting the big screen big time this year, get ready for some crime fighting, computer gaming and Titan battling action.

So kick off those Sunday shoes and travel back in time as AccessHollywood.com counts down the Top 10 classic ‘80s reboots/sequels we’re most excited about!

4. ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ (premiered in theaters, 1984)
Forget giving you nightmares, this 1984 thriller made you never want to go to sleep ever again. Starring none other than Johnny Depp, as well as Heather Langenkamp and Robert Englund, the legend of Freddy Krueger proved to be a horror story unlike any other. A psychopath’s ghost named Freddy Krueger stalked the children of the members of the lynch mob that murdered him and tried to kill them one by one in their sleep using a glove outfitted with razor blades. Now, Warner Bros. Pictures is releasing a reboot of the gruesome horror flick starring “Twilight” hunk Kellan Lutz, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy and Jackie Earl Haley as Freddy Krueger. This live action horror will be released April 30, 2010.
