Believe it or not, Kellan Lutz is as good on the inside as he looks on the outside! The Twilight star has spent the last week working with New Orleans’ St. Bernard Project in an attempt to build five houses in seven days for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

“We were working around the clock at 50 hours at a time in different shifts,” Lutz told UsMagazine. “We got it done just in time. We had so many people come out and lend a helping hand. It was so touching. ”

Lutz, 25, credits his girlfriend, 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord, with opening his eyes to the desperate need for volunteers in the area. “She really educated me on the need down there,” the actor said. “You don’t really grasp what is going on unless you are down there experiencing it.”

Lutz will be back in Louisiana when Breaking Dawn begins filming in Baton Rouge and plans to continue his volunteer work.

“I’m hoping to truck down and work with the St. Bernard Project [there] as well,” he said. “Hopefully I’ll be bring some other cast members too.”

Does Lutz mean that the very proper Robert Pattinson could be getting all rugged on us? “It would be a great surprise for everyone,” Lutz said, laughing. “Although I would have to take video of Rob trying to hammer a nail, he might hurt himself.”

Us Magazine got the chance to talk to Kellan on the phone. Read part of it below.

Twilight hunk Kellan Lutz holds no illusions about the nature of his stardom. “Producers and studios know what sells,” the impressively fit actor told UsMagazine.com during a Monday phone interview. “It’s nice to be one of the guys that can help sell a movie by taking his shirt off.”

Lutz, 25, recently topped Men’s Health magazine’s inaugural list of Best Summer Bodies — beating out such six-packed studs as Matthew McConaughey, Twilight costar Taylor Lautner, Zac Efron and others.

Still, Lutz told Us, “By no means do I want to be a piece of meat for the rest of my career. It’s funny when you get asked to do a talk show, and then they follow it up with requesting you take your shirt off.”

The star called Us from New Orleans on the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina; working with charity the St. Bernard Project, Lutz helped build five houses in seven days for the still-recovering city.

Well, the 2010 Popsugar’s Men Shirtless Bracket has come to an end and it was really close, but Kellan got second place, behind Taylor Lautner.

Twilight hunk Kellan Lutz secured a second place finish for the second year in a row. He went head to head against another one of his costars this year, but in the end his chiseled torso fell just a few votes shy of stealing the crown. Still, he earned more votes than fellow heartthrob finalists like Zac Efron and Jake Gyllenhaal.

I don’t know if you guys remember THIS article i shared with you at the end of last year but here is a small update on this movie Kellan is involved in, ‘Cedars of Lebanon‘. Below you find a synopsis as well as some links you should check out for more information about it.
